How matching works and what the percentages mean

We score only reviewed yes/no positions on questions that distinguish at least two candidates. Missing, uncertain and conditional responses are excluded. All ranked candidates are compared on the same questions you answered. At least five shared questions across three topics are required. A skipped question contributes nothing.

Importance applies to each individual question: less important = 1, important = 2, very important = 3. For each scored question, its contribution is its importance divided by the number of scored questions in that topic. Your percentage is the sum of matching contributions divided by all scored contributions. This gives the issues you care about more influence while keeping topics with several questions from gaining extra weight simply because they have more questions. Skipped or unscored questions and their importance settings contribute nothing. Ties share a rank; ballot order only determines their display order. Percentages are rounded after ranking.

The score describes agreement on these included policy questions. It does not measure competence, character, every campaign issue or future voting behavior. Similar documented positions can produce similar scores. This version relies primarily on September 23 Council forum answers; Arts Alliance, October SLCA and October 15 Chamber answers add source-linked comparisons. New Chamber questions with incomplete shared evidence show individual issue comparisons without changing percentage rankings. School Board evidence includes the October 7 PTA replay. New or qualified answers only affect scores when the shared-evidence requirements are met.

Question selection and coding are editorial choices. We include specific policy differences, exclude unanimous answers from scoring, preserve qualifications, and publish sources. A statement’s absence is never coded as opposition. Recorded votes and hypothetical responses are identified separately.

When enabled, anonymous activity counts record starts, completions, result views and share actions. Completed, rankable tests also send the candidate IDs ranked first and in the top three, including ties, to build private aggregate match totals. No individual result record is kept.
