Pack City Council This Tuesday: Providence CEO to Present on Hospital & ER Plans

Attend City Council

The fight to protect emergency healthcare for South Orange County coastal communities has reached a critical moment.

This Tuesday, June 9th, the Laguna Beach City Council will receive a formal presentation from Mission Hospital Laguna Beach regarding hospital operations and future services. Earlier this year, Providence signaled their intention to close our 24/7 Emergency Room and eliminate acute care services, proposing to replace them with an urgent care facility and outpatient services.

Let’s look at the reality: high-acuity urgent care clinics are typically only a few thousand square feet. Laguna Beach’s historic hospital sits on 22 acres of invaluable ocean-view land.

There is simply no substitute for a 24/7 ER. When minutes matter on our coastal highways, losing local emergency care is not an option. Our community is unified on this issue: in a recently published poll, nearly 90% of Laguna Beach respondents declared that keeping a local 24/7 emergency room is important.

The official City Council staff report lists this as an informational “Receive and File” presentation with no direct financial or project actions being taken by the city yet. However, this is our community’s primary window to pack the chambers, look leadership in the eye, and make our voices heard during the public comment and Q&A session.
